Adult Ministries



At California Heights United Methodist Church we are committed to helping people deepen their faith in Christ. Through worship, classes, retreats, programs and community outreach ministries, we seek to provide opportunities for spiritual growth.


Jesus taught us that the ultimate “goal” of the Christian life is to love God, love our neighbors and love ourselves. And, we are to do this with our whole selves- with all of hearts, ours souls and our minds (Matthew 22:34-40).  Our approach to the Christian life is holistic, teaching a vital faith that encourages the full use of our bodies, hearts and minds to the good of the world.

 

If you are looking to grow in your faith, we invite you to:

·        Make worship a priority in your weekend plans.

·        Develop a daily practice of prayer and/or meditation to help center your life in your relationship with God.  If prayer is new to you, keep an eye out for our classes on spirituality and prayer.

·        Study the Bible.  We offer various Bible Studies and classes throughout the year designed to help you deepen your understanding of the Scriptures and apply them to your daily life.  If you see a class that appeals to you, sign up.  We’d love to have you join the discussion.  By the way, we don’t, under any circumstances, want you to leave your brain at the door!  Please, come with all of your questions, doubts and fears, and we will try to tackle them together.

·        Participate in church programs, classes, and retreats.  As you get to know other people in the congregation, your own faith journey will be enhanced. Christianity is a religion that is almost impossible to practice on one’s own- Christianity is best lived in community. So, please, jump right in and join the community!

·        Look for opportunities to serve in the community through some of our volunteer opportunities. Faith is something that we both carry in our hearts and live out in the world.
